Mt. Clemens is the county seat of Macomb County. On January 15, 1818 the County of Macomb was established and three months later the Governor named Mt. Clemens the County seat. Other cities in Macomb County include; Center Line, Eastpointe, Fraser, Memphis, New Baltimore, Richmond, Roseville, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, Utica and Warren. Warren is the largest city in Macomb County.
Macomb County's total population in 2008 was 829,436 residents in 327,000 households, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. With a business-friendly government and 94 industrial parks located within the county, manufacturing is Macomb County's leading industry, employing roughly one-third of the workforce. There are six community hospitals that provide care to Macomb County residents: Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center in Mt. Clemens Campus. The 2009 Macomb County Behavioral Risk Factor Survey stated that only about 9.8 percent of adults in Macomb County reported that they had experienced physical health that was not good on at least 15 days during the past month. Numerous transportation options are available to Macomb County residents. The county has easy access to four airports; the Coleman A. Macomb County is served by Interstate 94, known as the O'Hara Freeway, which runs through Detroit and serves Ann Arbor to the west and Port Huron to the northeast. Canada and three international border crossings are approximately 30 miles from the center of Macomb County.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement services to the county. The sheriff's officers also provide a portion of the staff at the Macomb County Jail.
