Statistics from NHTSA Show 1 in 10 Fatal Accidents Caused by Distracted Drivers

In early September, our Bloomfield Hills car accident attorneys presented information about the anti-texting campaign being run by AT&T.  Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said distracted driving has become an epidemic on America’s roadways, and he applauds the work the company is doing to raise awareness of the dangers associated with texting and driving.  The recent statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration seem to support LaHood’s theory.

Parents Urged to Drive Safely

Many parents follow the “Do as I say, not as I do” method of teaching their children appropriate behaviors.  However, they should rethink that approach when it comes to encouraging their children to drive safely.  According to a new study, teen drivers not only ignore that advice, but they actually mimic their parents’ poor driving behaviors.

In a survey conducted by Liberty Mutual and Students Against Destructive Decisions, researchers found that an overwhelming number of the young drivers reported they get their poor driving habits from their parents.

Website, Safety Week Dedicated to Child Passenger Safety

The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute has launched a new website dedicated to child passenger safety research.  The launch of cpsbestpractice.org coincides with the Child Passenger Safety Week campaign from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  The campaign, which focuses on educating adults on the proper use of child safety restraints, runs September 16-22 and ends with National Seat Check Saturday.
