Michigan Lawmakers Consider Placing Caps on No-Fault Insurance Benefits

When a Michigan Car Accident occurs, victims can be left with injuries that affect them for a lifetime. Under current state law, most expenses associated with injuries can be covered by a motorist’s no-fault auto insurance policy. However lawmakers are considering changing this rule.

According to an article from WKAR News, the state legislature is considering placing a $1 million cap on damages paid by no-fault insurance. Those currently receiving lifelong benefits would continue to receive their payments, while those filing new claims would be subject to the cap.

Michigan Seat Belt Use Hits 90 Percent

Automobile seat belt use nationwide has hit an all-time high of 86 percent, according to new safety numbers.

And in Michigan and the 31 other states where it is against the law not to buckle up the compliance rate is 90 percent.

It turns out that the greatest number of car wrecks happen on 12 Mile Road and Southfield Road, according to crash data from the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments.

Roadside Repair Leads to Bloomfield Tragedy

When cars break down, there is an increased risk of injuries and fatalities on the road. Bloomfield Township provides an unfortunate example involving a man who got killed on November 10 as he was attempting to make repairs to his car.

According to WXYZ-TV Action News 7:
